Timeshare Exchange
How do you like to vacation? There are always exciting destinations to consider when you own a timeshare, and you can see the world by using the all the advantages of the timeshare exchange system. If you enjoy flexibility and variety when choosing your holiday times and destinations, then the timeshare exchange system provides timeshare owners with a global choice of places to visit and times to holiday. Sometimes an exchange company will offer guest certificates that allow family members or friends to use the timeshare accommodations of a timeshare exchange member. In addition, timeshare exchange companies also act as travel agents and provide members with reduced rates for timeshare packages and airfare.
Timeshare exchanges also offer cruise programs where members can use timeshares to gain credit for cruise packages too. Timeshare exchange companies also provide supplemental information about timeshare resorts to their members each month, which supply members with details about certain resorts as well as suggested holiday destinations.
In addition to making exchanges, timeshare exchange companies also provide other benefits as well. For example, they sometimes offer members bonus weeks. With these weeks, you can rent space at exceptionally low rates. The weeks are not banked and are usually available during low season, or at other times in the year when customer demand is minimal. Nevertheless, bonus weeks offer quite affordable rates and can be used whenever you wish.
Interval World (Interval International) and RCI (Resorts Condominiums International) are the two main timeshare exchange companies, offering timeshare vacations and timeshare exchanges in over 94 countries at over 4,000 affiliated timeshare resorts and vacation clubs. In principle, to benefit from this flexible holiday system you simply purchase a timeshare week or timeshare points, and join the timeshare exchange program to which your ownership is affiliated. Many timeshare resorts are dual affiliated, which means owners have the option to join either the Interval World or RCI timeshare exchange systems.
Once you are a Member of a timeshare exchange company, you can then use your timeshare ownership each year to exchange for holidays at destinations and resorts other than the one you actually own at and at different times of the calendar year. For this reason many people buy timeshare purely for exchanging. However, whilst there is a great deal of flexibility in the timeshare exchange system, getting the holidays you want depends largely upon the trading power of your ownership.
What is Trading Power?
Timeshare is divided into seasons or
time bands, which are Blue/Green-time (Low-season), White/Yellow-time
(Mid-season) and Red-time (High or Peak-season). Resorts
are also afforded a grading based upon independent revues of the resort, usually provided by timeshare owners. For example, RCI designate Silver Crown
and Gold Crown
status, whilst Interval World use
Select and
Premier status, to denote medium and top graded resorts respectively.
When it comes to timeshare exchanges, a One Bedroom (T1/4) Blue/Green-time timeshare at a low-grade resort is likely to be significantly less desirable than a One Bedroom (T1/4) Red-time Peak week at a Premier or Gold Crown resort, and this is reflected in the price you will pay for a timeshare ownership. Unfortunately this seasonal banding system does not provide the buyer with much help regarding the trading power of a week - with only three bands the grading is too coarse to identify actual demand for weeks. For example, all timeshare weeks in the Canary Islands are Red-High season, including January and November, whereas the main demand for timeshare exchanges in the Canary Islands is during the summer months and demand during the winter is much lower. Purchasing the wrong timeshare will mean that you will not be able to get the exchanges that you want, as many owners have found to their cost.
To point you in the right direction, there are two main factors used in determining a timeshare's trading power. The first is the demand for your resort by other timeshare owners within the timeshare exchange system. For instance. RCI timeshare tracks historical demand patterns at their affiliated timeshare resorts and the demand trends balanced against resort availability influence the trading value and exchange power of each week deposited. Interval World provide a web site 'Travel Demand Index' that shows weekly variations in the demand for the holiday destination where your timeshare resort is located, and this will give you a good idea of timeshare exchange availability and the trading power of your timeshare ownership. Secondly it is very important to deposit your timeshare week early. The earlier the timeshare exchange company receives your deposit, the more time they have to utilize it in an exchange for other destinations and resorts where you want to holiday.
For the purpose of making a good exchange, it is more important to own timeshare in high demand areas, like the United Kingdom, Madeira, Greece, Orlando USA and to deposit early, rather than to own at Gold Crown or Premier resorts in less highly demanded areas or at unfavourable times of the year.
By staying focused on these two factors, you can save money and look forward to getting the holiday exchanges you want. If you already own timeshare and are having difficulty getting the timeshare exchanges that you want then the RCI Timeshare Points holiday reservation system could provide a solution to this problem, allowing timeshare owners to upgrade their ownership quickly and easily, and at considerable savings.
